Description

A collection of works by collector Ronnie Sassoon. The author has lived in London, New York, Los Angeles, and various places in between throughout his life. In order to define how the "selection" of the things he has collected has been made, this book brings together radical artworks, design objects, and houses in an unprecedented way. This is a unique collection that includes important works by artists belonging to art movements such as Group Zero and Arte Povera, such as Italian artists Lucio Fontana , Piero Manzoni , Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Alighiero Boetti, as well as works by representative mid-century designers such as Italian designers Carlo Scarpa and Gae Aulenti, Austrian designer Frederick Kiesler, and French designer and architect Jean Prouvé . The collection centers around three important homes: the Levit House in Los Angeles by American architect Richard Neutra, the Stillman II House in Connecticut by Hungarian architect Marcel Breuer, and the iconic Dean/Ceglic Loft in New York's SoHo district, where the founder of Dean & Deluca lived . Each of these buildings defines its time and place in design history, while also being redefined by the objects that inhabit them today. The designer explains, "The pursuit of passion and desire creates the most comfortable and sensual atmosphere. It evokes past experiences, whether it be movies, print, travel, or any other experience that we find engrossing. It is these memories that inform our choices in the pursuit of great objects ."

Through a series of beautiful, thought-provoking photographs of art, objects and interiors, the book is both sensual and explanatory, documenting the vision of a life of elevated choice. "Ronny Sassoon's talent is an uncanny ability to converge art, design, architecture and color (or the lack thereof), the result of a deliberate decision to raise the bar on standards of beauty and everyday gestures, the spirit of the space, gesture and time shared with the author is a moment of generosity," French curator Philippe Vergne writes in his foreword .
