Description
A collection of works by British photographer Dave Swindells. This is the third edition of the collection of the same name, published in 2020. Ibiza, a mecca for nightlife, experienced explosive growth with the "Second Summer of Love" in the late 1980s. This book captures the early Ibiza scene, known as "Retro Ibiza," by the photographer, who has continued to photograph club culture.
The photographer has been photographing the club scene in London and elsewhere since 1984, and has written extensively about it as the nightlife editor of the British magazine Time Out from 1986 to 2009. He first went to Ibiza in June 1989 to cover 20/20 , a supplement to the now defunct Time Out magazine . Having spent his time in the clubs, the photographer had often heard that Ibiza was a hot spot. Only a small portion of the images he shot over the course of a week were ultimately used in the feature, but the eight rolls of film he took are now shared in this volume. From arm-waving dancing groups to lounging and chatting at dawn, the photographer has captured the vibrant spirit and joy of Ibiza as it enters a new decade.
The book features a foreword by British DJ Terry Farley, a foreword by the authors, and additional writing by editor Alix Sharkey specifically written for the 20/20 feature.
